Law firm Hogan Lovells has paid tribute to one of its corporate partners who has died at 40.
Richard Diffenthal was a corporate partner in the firm’s London office with a focus on M&A and fundraising for clients in the technology, financial services and FinTech sectors, his LinkedIn profile said.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Richard Diffenthal. He was a great colleague as well as being a friend to many in our UK offices and across our global M&A practice, having joined the firm 17 years ago as a trainee,” a spokesperson for the firm said in a statement.
“He was a highly talented transactions lawyer and a much loved leader of our UK team. We are deeply shocked by this tragic news and our thoughts are with his family at this time,” the statement said.

Diffenthal studied law at the University of Oxford, graduating in 2002, and joined Hogan Lovells as a trainee in 2004, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was married with three children.
Major deals he worked on included advising FinTech Monzo on its £20m crowdfunding round as part of its £105m Series E raise, according to this profile on the firm’s website.
His other mandates included acting for Globacap on its issuance of ordinary shares onto the public blockchain and advising ITV on its acquisition of TwoFour Group.
